Baptism
The sacrament of baptism is the means through which we become members of the Church – the mystical body of Christ. In
Baptism we are buried with Jesus Christ and we are raised to new life through water and the Holy Spirit.  This
 Baptism
pamphlet provides details on what to expect from the Baptismal liturgy.

Those interested in the Sacrament of Baptism are asked to contact
Rev. Paul  at the Parish Office at least 3 months prior to the
desired date. Candidates for baptism and/or their parents are expected to be regular participants in the faith life of the
community.

Confirmation
The sacrament of Confirmation is meant for Christians of all ages who wish to make a serious commitment to their faith.
Candidates re-affirm the vows made at their baptism and they receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands
by the Bishop.
The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in our Parish every two years. The next celebration will take place in Spring 2013
at St. Luke’s, Port-de-Grave.  Details will be made available regarding Confirmation classes in December 2012.

Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, instituted by Jesus Christ, is the sacrament through which one’s relationship with God and the
church is restored after it has been broken by sin. The priest, acting in the person of Christ, offers His forgiveness and pardon.
While this often takes place in the context of our corporate worship, confessions may also be heard privately. During private
confessions, absolution as well as counsel and spiritual advice can be offered.
To schedule an appointment for Confession, please contact
Rev. Paul the Parish Priest.

Holy Eucharist
Also known as Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, or the Mass, this sacrament is the means by which Christ nourishes and
sustains His church with His body and blood. In this sacrament, Jesus Christ becomes present to us in forms of bread and wine.
The Eucharist is the principal liturgy of the church. Please consult the
worship schedule to find out when the Eucharist is
celebrated in our parish.

Marriage
“Marriage is a gift of God and a means of his grace, in which man and woman become one flesh. It is God’s purpose that, as
husband and wife give themselves to each other in love, they shall grow together and be united in that love, as Christ is united
with his Church.”  (BAS, p.528)
If you are interested in having your wedding celebrated in one of the churches of our Parish, please contact {link to contact
page} the Parish Office at least 3 months prior to the desired date. Couples are expected to be regular participants in the faith
life of the community.
Please read this
Marriage document for more information on the celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony in the Parish
of Port-de-Grave.

Anointing of the Sick
The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, also called Holy Unction, is when a priest prays and blesses those who are sick with
Chrism when they are ill or are in danger of dying.  The sacrament bestows a special grace and strength.

Holy Orders
Through our baptism, each of us receives a vocation to the service of Christ and His church. God calls some people to serve
his church through ordained ministry – the diaconate or the priesthood. For more information on vocations to ordained ministry,
please consult the diocesan website.
